ÖJAB has been active in the field of care for the elderly and senior citizens since the 1980s and operates four retirement and nursing homes and a mobile home nursing service in Vienna. Like many other organizations in Austria and Europe that are active in the care sector, ÖJAB is also confronted with a shortage of skilled workers.
This situation gave rise to the idea of opening our own nursing school to offer training as a ‘nursing assistant’.
In a video talk, Sebastian Frank from ÖJAB explains how the journey from the idea to the opening of their own nursing school took place. Above all, he explains the successful model of the ÖJAB nursing school, consisting of a combination of nursing training, nostrification support for specialist qualifications acquired abroad and German lessons as a specialist language in the nursing sector.
The central topics in the video talk are:
- An overview of ÖJAB’s care commitment since the 1980s
- ÖJAB’s response to the shortage of skilled workers in the care sector
- Nostrification and recognition: the challenge for foreign nursing staff
- Career path for nursing assistants: ÖJAB nursing school opens doors
